The Christmas season brings us a great message of joy. We remember the birth of God's Son, our Savior. For 30 years, the youth from the eRko community in Slovakia have been striving to bring this joyful message to people in their homes.
Over the 30 years of the Good News project, thousands of carolers have been engaged every year in Slovakia, visiting tens of thousands of families during the Christmas holidays. The Good News project has managed to support 428 projects in 16 African countries with a total of more than 16 million EUR, thus helping to improve living conditions and ensure a dignified life for vulnerable groups of people in East Africa, bringing hope to those who need it most. (You can learn more about the Good News project at https://www.dobranovina.sk/)
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for welcoming the carolers of the Good News who visited your homes not only in the past but also this year 2025. You have supported not only the idea of bringing the Gospel message into your homes through children and youth but also the nationwide Good News project.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank the children and youth from the eRko community of our entire Medzibrod parish from Medzibrod and Hiadlo, who have also participated in the 30th anniversary of the caroling project Good News this year 2025. As part of the caroling, our carolers visited 11 homes in Medzibrod, Hiadlo, Ľubietová, and also visited the Social Services Home Strom in Strelníky. In this public collection, the carolers successfully raised funds amounting to 605 EUR, which were sent to eRko to support humanitarian and development projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.
It was beautiful to watch our youth from the parish prepare with joy and subsequently bring the message of the Gospel about God's birth. In addition to caroling at homes and the DSS Strom, they also caroled on the street in Ľubietová when they announced the joyful message to the emeritus evangelical pastor Jozef Grexa and his wife, who were very pleased.
Let us not forget, all the prayers, gifts, wishes, carols, and mutual kindness and the desire for God's blessing are manifestations of hope for us and for the world. I wholeheartedly wish you all that in this anniversary year 2025, the star of hope shines brightly in your lives.
Yours, Father Martin Uhrík, pastor in Medzibrod
